The Week’s round of NHL action continues on Wednesday with thrilling encounters to look out for.
Pittsburgh Penguins VS. Montreal Canadiens
The Penguins host the Canadiens in what is expected to be an entertaining encounter in the Eastern Conference. Both sides are currently occupying the top 10 spots in the Eastern Conference.
The Penguins are currently in decent form and recorded a 5-3 win over the weekend to hand the Red Wings their 11th consecutive loss and secure a third straight win for themselves since losing back-to-back games against Columbus Blue Jackets (5-2) and St. Louis Blues (5-2). They are currently 4th in the Metropolitan Division and 5th in the Eastern Conference with 38 points. Their win-loss-Overtime loss record now stands at 17-9-4. They have also scored 103 goals and Conceded 81 giving them a goal difference of 22. They have also recorded 5 of their overall defeats at home this season. They will be looking to secure another win to maintain a consistent winning run. They could, however, be without the services of defender Chad Ruhwedel who is reportedly a doubt for this game with the injury.
Their opponents, the Canadiens, on the other hand, are also quite struggling to maintain a consistent winning run even after recording a second consecutive win after returning to winning ways by beating the New York Rangers 2-1 over the weekend thanks to Nate Thompson’s late goal in the third period of the game. The win was only their second in 11 games with the previous victory before last weekend coming in a 4-2 win against the New York Islanders last week. This poor form sees them languishing in 5th in the Atlantic Division and 10th in the Eastern Conference with 32 points after 30 games this season. Their win-loss-overtime loss record now stands at 13-11-6. They have also scored 97 goals this season. They will need to have a good day if they are to get a positive result from this game.
Prediction: Penguins VS. Canadiens- 1-4
Buffalo Sabres VS. St. Louis Blues
This game presents a clash between two sides who are experiencing a rough patch in recent games as the Buffalo Sabres host the St. Louis Blues at home.
The Sabres are 3rd in the Atlantic Division and 8th in the Eastern Conference with 34 points and head into this game on the back of a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on the road courtesy of Colin Miller’s overtime goal which secured a return to winning ways for the Sabres. They had previously lost two consecutive games against Calgary Flames (4-3) and Vancouver Canucks (6-5 OT) before the recent win.
They now have a 14-11-6 (W-L-OTL) record this season and a goal difference of 1 after scoring 96 and conceding 95 goals after 31 games this season. A second consecutive win could be on the cards in this game.
The Blues, on the other hand, has lost two games in a row against Pittsburgh Penguins (3-0) and Toronto Maple Leafs (5-2).However, they are still top of both the Central Division and the Western Conference with 42 points and an 18-7-6 (W-L-OTL) record after 31 games this season. This game comes against another inconsistent team that comes at the right time and is a must-win game for the St. Louis Blues.
Prediction: Sabres VS. Blues- 4-3
Nashville Predators VS. San Jose Sharks
The Predators head into this game on the back of a 6-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils in their last game, which guaranteed them a first victory in their last 3 games. They are 6th in the Central Division and 12th in the Western Conference with 31 points and a 13-10-5 (W-L-OTL) record. This game could provide the opportunity to put together a consistent run of victories.
The Sharks, on the other hand, are in terrible form after losing their fourth game in a row at Florida Panthers (5-1). This poor round of results has seen them lie in 6th and 11th in the Pacific Division and the Western Conference respectively with 32 points and a 15-15-2 (W-L-OTL) record after 32 games. This is a must-win game for them to get back to winning ways.
Prediction: Predators VS. Sharks- 2-3 OT
Winnipeg Jets VS. Detroit Red Wings
The Jets head into this game on the back of a 3-2 win against Anaheim Ducks over the weekend to secure a return to winning ways. They are now 3rd in the Central Division and 5th in the Western Conference with 38 points and an 18-10-2 (W-L-OTL) record.
The Red Wings on the other hand are currently in terrible form. They are now winless in their last 11 games with their recent loss coming over the weekend against the Penguins (7-21-3). As a result, they are now bottom of both the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference with 17 points and a 7-21-3 (W-L-OTL) record.
Prediction: Jets VS. Red Wings- 4-1
Minnesota Wild VS. Anaheim Ducks
Minnesota Wild was beaten 6-2 in the last game with the defeat ending a 5-game winning run. They are now 5th and 10th in the Central Division and the Western Conference respectively, with 32 points and a 14-12-4 record.
The Ducks are also winless in their last two games (3-2 losses against Capitals and Jets). They have only won once in their last 5 games (4-2 against Los Angeles Kings). They are 7th and 11th in the Pacific Division and Western Conference respectively, with 28 points and a 12-14-4 (W-L-OTL) record.
